How much does it cost for my band to record a CD?

We get this question all the time! The short answer is: It depends. The number of variables involved makes each project unique. We recommend an initial meeting to discuss the scope of your project.

Here are some questions that will impact recording costs: How many people are in your band? How many songs do you want to record? Is your group well rehearsed? What is your purpose for this project: Do you want to make a demo, a full-length CD for commercial sale, or are you doing it just for fun? Have you thought about graphic design? Knowing the answers to questions like these upfront will ensure that you are happy with the end result.

Can't we just use the original version of that song?

Many business people have projects that include music. We often get requests to use a popular song in a presentation for a business meeting, seminar or a TV or radio spot. Such songs are protected by copyright law, however, and using them without permission can expose your business to litigation. We can help you secure licensing rights from the copyright owners, but that is often prohibitively expensive. One filmmaker, for example, wanted to use the song, "These Boots Are Made For Walking," and discovered it would cost $100,000! A better alternative is a Sound Strations original music composition tailored to your exact needs.

Do I need mastering for my record project?

If you aspire to professional standards, the answer is yes! Mastering is an advanced equalization method using precise technology to bring out the best in your recording and make it radio-ready. It is the polish and buffing that separates the pros from the amateurs. Call us for a demonstration of the difference mastering will make with your project.

Our band members all have day jobs. Can we come in at night?

Yes! In this business, we have to be flexible. The key here is communications and coordination. Before we begin any project, we will sit down with you and map out a production schedule so you will have clear expectations of the time frame, budget and final product. If your schedule requires weekend or evening sessions, we'll be here for you.
